Madison features a prominent filmmaking community

Madison is home to local filmmakers, some of whom study at the university. Some of their work has been featured in the Wisconsin Film Festival, an annual festival that screens films in multiple venues across the city. Click below to hear from some of the local filmmakers about their projects.

Violet Wang

Violet is a UW-Madison student double-majoring in Journalism and Communication Arts. Her short documentary, “Brown Girl” was featured in the 2017 Wisconsin Film Festival.






Brandon Colvin
Brandon is a teaching assistant in the Communication Arts Department; B.A in Creative Writing, M.A. & Ph.D. in Film Studies. He filmed two feature-length films in Madison, “Frames” and “Sabbatical,” both of which screened at the 2012 and 2014 Wisconsin Film Festivals, respectively.




Aaron Granat
Aaron is a lecturer in the Communication Arts Department. He has worked on experimental art installations set up throughout campus.
